What Causes Fluctuating Blood Pressure In Elderly Patients?

My fathers blood pressure is currently 191 over 96 (as of 5 minutes ago). It usually around 140 over 75. He is 72 years old. Over the last couple of days, it has been going up and down. Is this an emergency situation? As other elderly folks, he doesn t want to go to the hospital. I am concerned. Thanks Randy

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is not an emergency unless he is having symptoms but you should an appointment with his doctor for review of his blood pressure and medication if he is on treatment.

If he is having symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, palpitations then he should be seen as soon as possible.

I hope this helps
