What Causes Flatulence And Abdominal Bloating?

I have been having smelly burps for the last 2 days that smell like rotten eggs are am 54 and I usually only burp after a carbonated beverage and rarely more than once or twice but this is every 5-10 minutes. No burning/indigestion. Slight nausea this a.m., bloating last 2 days with very smelly gas but no diarrhea, just normal stools. No cramping. No foods that are gas producing, no new foods, no new meds, no illnesses, no traveling or around others who travel. Around my grandkids this month but they have no symptoms, have had no illnesses, and are not in daycare settings. Not around pets. Can t see how I would have HPylori or Gardasil but this is really very unusual for me. Oh, and I am an RN.

Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
Flatulence/abdominal bloating could have endogenoue or exogenous cause.
-Exogenous origin comes from swallowed air
-Endogenous origin comes from bacteria and yeast found in the gastrointesinal tract. Most of these organisms are capable of producing methane and hydrogen sulfide that may be responsible for bad odor burps. Other causes of this condition may include: inflammatory bowel diseases, food intolerance, artificial additives, constipation...
You may not need any special treatment yet.I will suggest you try the following
-Eat in small quantities
-Take enough fluids
-Take fruits except bananas which may rather constipate
-Eat slowly, chew your food thoroughly and don't gulp
-Avoid eating and lying down immediately
-Avoid chewing gum, sucking on hard candies and drinking through a straw
-Check your dentures
-Don't smoke
-Exercise
If the problem persist, a stool examine for bacteria and yeast may be the next step.An H pylori test may also be requested by your Doctor.Treatment in this case will depend on identified underlying cause
Hope my answer will help you
Best regards
