Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had problems with my scalp for years. It Involves flaking and red patches. It is not itchy. I have been second guessing what it is . When I use head and shoulders I get red patches on my scalp. I have tried several different shampoos but head and shoulders is the only one that can calm it down.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain it seems that the symptoms of flaking and redness of scalp seems to be most probably due to Seborrheic Dermatitis and can occur due to a number of causes like fungal infection, stress, genetics etc..
I would suggest you to consult a Trichologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and microscopic examination of flakes can help in diagnosis and treatment can be advised accordingly..
You can be advised to wash you hairs with shampoo containing Ketoconazole, coal tar, salicylic acid, sulfur, zinc, selenium etc.. You can be advised to apply steroid lotion over the scalp.. You can also be advised to keep the scalp dry and clean.. Avoid moisture accumulation and stress..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
