What Causes Fever In A Child?

hi.. my 22 months son is running high fever since 17th May.. doesn t complain of pain during urinating. However his test results indicate leucocyte-positive, pus cells-18-20 wbc/hpf. His USG showed VUR, for which we have to get further investigations like MCV, IVU, nuclear scans etc done. One of His urine culture reports showed E.Coli. While the same test repeated the next day showed nothing. The third sample has been sent today. His blood culture report is negative. His fever had subsided on 4th june under injectible antibiotics, which were withdrawn on 7th and he was switched to oral antibiotics. he has developed fever again since yest. And there is no other clear indication. Whats ur take on it?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

This might be urine infection with a resistant organism (have to see culture report). If a repeat culture is negative and fever is continuing, we have to evaluate for other causes, which depends on any additional symptoms, examination findings and reports of investigations like blood count and peripheral smear. Kindly discuss with your doctor.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
