What Causes Fever, Headache, Dizziness And Vomiting?

Hi! I spent a week in Mexico and returned on 3/19. That night I developed a fever, and by next day had severe watery diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and muscle aches. Never had blood in stool or a headache. Started taking Cipro on 3/22, but stopped after 3 days at Doctor s suggestion because it was causing significant dizziness. Felt better, with normal stools, for 2 days but as of yesterday, I have diarrhea again as well as a headache and nausea. Should I resume the Cipro, or will this resolve on it s own? I should note that I visit Mexico several times per year and have never gotten sick before.

Hi,

The medicine Ciprofloxacin you are prescribed is good to combat stomach infection due to food poisoning. As per my judgement, three days course proved insufficient and you required five days course.

I would advise you to switch to Ofloxacin 200 mg and Ornidazole 500 mg combination (Zenflox OZ) twice a day for five days as only ciprofloxacin may not work now. Taking Rabeprazole and Domperidone combination (Veloz-D) along with antibiotic will protect you from some adverse effects you were experiencing with Ciprofloxacin.

Do complete this course of medicine for total eradication of infection. If you do not find relief after that, you might need to go for blood test and cuture report.
