my nephew is 2 years and 7 months old i have been taking his tempuature for the past hour and it has range from 100.8 to 102.0. i have a behind the ear thermometer. His eyes and lips are red. i have given him some over the counter medicine. should i taken him to the er? also i can feel his heart beat really fast when i lay my hand on his chest. it that normal?
It is normal to find a fast heartbeat with rise in body temperature. Don't worry too much about that. However, the fever itself is quite high and you should be taking him to the ER urgently. At least within the next 12 hours. He may have a viral or bacterial infection, but this will be clear only if he is examined and some tests are run on him to discover the underlying cause.
Once the underlying cause is found, his definitive treatment can be begun.
