What Causes Fever And Drowsiness In A Child?

My baby is 8 months old. Had a fever the past two days and sleeps all the time. No fever now, but wants to sleep all the time, very cranky. No runny nose, can't see in ears(too much wax), don't think I see any teeth coming in, diapers are fine. what should I look for?
