What Causes Feeling Off-balance When Having Shortness Of Breath?

If u have shortness of breath, your balance seems off. Your head feels like it has air or fluid in it . What could it be. I have worked longs hours lately, not a lot of restful sleep, a lot of time in cold weather, I am female, age 66. Thought I just may be very tired. Any thought. Thanks

Hi there! My name is Vinay. Interesting question.

Your body has alot of defense mechanisms to make sure that blood is flowing to your brain. Sometimes, when your brain (or more accurately when the tiny cells called baroreceptors that are in the vessels LEADING to your brain) detects that it isn't getting enough blood or oxygen, it will cut your muscle tone so that you sink to the ground (or fall). The idea is that once your on the ground... it's much easier to get more blood to the brain.

This is just one possible explanation. There are others including the chance that this might be due to a disease process. If you would like a detailed and personalized discussion where we can take your personal details and healt info into account. Why don't you try our Ask A Doctor option.

Take care and Thanks for coming to HealthCareMagic.com
