What Causes Fecal Discharge Through The Vagina While On A Hospice?

Yes, thank you. We just heard from Hospice that they think my 88 year old mother in law, 9 years into ALZ and living in a memory Medicaid unit, may have feces leaking through and exiting her vagina. My wife wants more knowledge and chance to be prepared for the possible options the doctor may present after they notify her tomorrow. We have certainly never heard of this condition. Hospice mentioned, and I'm hearing this third hand, my apologies, a fistula? maybe?

As I can understand from your question, your old mother in law has feces leaking through the vagina.
This is a condition that can bue due to a fistula, wich is a pathological duct: thi s kind of fistula (in the specific case of your mother in law) connects the rectum intestine and the vagina, so that feces go from the rectum to the vagina instead of being expelled from the anal channel.
A possible cause of this fistula is a neoplasm of the rectum or the vagina, but only with an inspection and images (such as CT scan) the cause can be find.
