What Causes Fatty Liver And Elevated Liver Enzymes?
Dear Doctor I have hepatomegaly with grade II fatty infilteration, 15.3 cm span of liver showing increased parenchymal echotexture suggestive of fatty changes, SGPT (ALT) 181 and SGOT(AST) 82 as per ultrasound and blood test. Kindly tell how serious is this condition and treatment/lifestyle change etc. I am a occasionally alcoholic non vegetarian men of 33year.
Yes, your ultrasound report and raised enzymes indicate fatty liver. This is common, and though it is increasingly found to be causing fibrosis of liver most of the patient does not end with liver fibrosis.
Only 1 per cent of people with fatty liver may lead to fibrosis. Still, it needs good care and lifestyle changes. Weight loss, vegetable diet, avoiding fatty and carb diet are best things do in such cases.
We strongly recommend to avoid use of alcohol or minimize it, as they both can cause serious liver injury.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Mahboob Ur Rahman , General & Family Physician
