What Causes Eye Floaters In The Left Eye In A Diabetic Patient?

I have flickering rods of lights in my left eye. Orientation of the rods seem to be random. I also have type 2 diabetes. Seems like the symptom is lessening now and only lasted about 10 minutes. Should I be concerned or is this common. I haven t experienced this before.
