What Causes Extremely Dry And Itchy Skin On The Face?

Hello, I am a 41 year old female and the past month I have had severe dry skin on my face (concentrated on my chin and side of nose down to chin) the last 2 weeks I have developed itchiness-and itchy sores that look like large bug bites. This week I am fatiqued and have sporatic purple brusing on my body. My feet/ankles feel tight. I am physically active (have an active job) but do smoke about 1-5 cigarettes a day on average(I have quit but it has only been 3 days), and am a moderate (beer only) drinker(though the last couple weeks I have slowed that down as well. Just concerned, any feed back would be appreciated. thank you!

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Dry skin on chin and nose can be bug bite. Bug bite can lead to itchiness and thus dryness. However, I suggest you to consult a dermatologist to look for any other cause of dryness and thus itchiness.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
