What Causes Extreme Constipation And Brown Mucus Fluid Vomiting?

Hi! My mom is 83 years old. She has been constipated for a while now. Even though we have taken her to the hospital and she has gotten mess and done an Emma she is still irregular. Now she is vomiting up brown mucus fluid. It does NOT smell like faeces. Should Intake her to the hospital?

Thanks for contacting HCM with your health concern and following is symptomwise approach:

1. In elderly or bed ridden patient, do per rectal (P.R.) examination for impacted hard stools. Do manual removal of stools with gloved hands and vaseline or give enema or glycerine syringe on alternate mornings.

2. If constipation is accompanied by vomiting, pain, abdominal distension one should suspect intestinal obstruction and. refer early to surgeon.

3. Palpate the abdomen and if there is tenderness (pain on pressure) then do not give strong purgatives like castor oil.

4.If vomiting is significant,
. i.v. fluids- Ringer lactate or DNS
. inj. ondansetron 4 mg i.v.
