What Causes Excessive Weight Gain And Pubertal Gynecomastia In A Child?

My 15 year old son has recently gained a large amount of weight (35 pounds in a year....10 of those in last month). He also has developed breasts. I have been reading about Pubertal Gynecomastia. What is best route to get diagnosed, other than bloodwork?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi welcome to the health care magic

Diagnosis of gynecomastia includes physical examination and mammography or USG like investigation..
If needed FNAC can be done for that

High estrogen is the cause for gynecomastia

Liver disorders, malnutrition, thyroid issues, testicular problems etc are associated with gynecomastia

Hence kindly get checked your child breast tissue by nearby surgeon and then if needed further work up planned

Hope your concern solved

Take care
