What Causes Excessive Sleep While On Fibromyalgia Medication?

I have a friend who is 62 years old, female and has been confused and dazed today. She has been falling asleep during the day and dozing a lot. Her mother did have Alzheimer s. She has been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and takes medicine for that. From time to time she has mixed up her medications and she has been exposed to the flu this past week and week-end. What should we be doing to help her? Thoughts on what might be wrong? Advise?

She should be examined by a doctor for possible medication effects causing the symptoms you mention. She should also be checked (if not recently) for some basic chemistries and urine screens to be sure there are no significant imbalances in electrolytes, she's not significantly anemic, losing blood from anywhere, or has infections (pneumonia, etc.) that could be treated to make her more alert and engaged.
