What Causes Excessive Salivation And Bad Breath When Diagnosed With Gum Disease?

I used to discharge saliva a lot whilst talking, often spraying people near me, and it was always very embarrassing. I also had bad breath. This had been going on for several years, although I had been seeing my dentist twice a year for general cleaning. Last year I was diagnosed with gum disease and went through treatment at the dental hospital (removing plaque and deep cleaning) for 6 months. My teeth hygiene has improved drastically and I am brushing them three times a day. I am also wearing dental braces at the moment to fix overcrowding of my upper teeth and after 5 months already my teeth are straight and now I can smile. My point is; the saliva discharge has not happened for quite a few months now - my question is was this being caused by the gum disease or the overcrowded teeth?

As per your complain yes, gum infection can cause inflammation of the gums and it can cause irritation inside mouth that can stimulate salivary glands to secrete more saliva causing hypersalivation..

Overcrowded teeth are one of the most common cause for infection in gums due to lack of proper cleaning of crowded teeth and as the gun disease will aggravate the problem will arise..

As now the gum health is improved with treatment and also crowding is resolved therefore the infection is not present in gums and so is the salivation reduced..

You should continue maintaining a good Oral hygiene and also do warm saline gargles and antiseptic mouthwash gargle..
Go for a routine dental checkup every 6 months.
