What Causes Excessive Saliva Secretion When Diagnosed With Esophageal Stricture Or Dysphagia?
My mother was diagnosed with stricture and stenosis of esophagus/ dysphagia. She had a stent inserted in her esophagus. She is constantly spitting up muscus 24/7 . Its very thick and stringy at times she has a hard time swallowing. Warm liquid with honey lemon helps. Is there anything we can do. She has lost a considerable amount of weight. Is there anything we can do?
Understanding your concern. As per your query excessive saliva secretion when diagnosed with esophageal stricture or dysphagia are clearly indicating a condition known as ' SILENT REFLUX ' , This is different from GERD in some aspect that it doesn't produce symptoms like heart burn . In this condition the acidic content of stomach comes upto nasopharynx due to dysfunction of esophageal sphincter .
Only medicines will not going to help in this case there is a need of life style change also . So i would suggest you o :-
- Avoid eating heavy like fatty and spicy food specially before going to bed . - Eat frequent and small meals . - Take light walk after every meal . - Avoid alcohol and other aerated drinks .
Consult gastroenterologist for proper examination . Doctor may order certain test like endoscopy and x-ray of upper digestive track and treat it accordingly.
