What Causes Excessive Burping?

fit and healthy 53 year old - I burp incessantly for last 3 months - no acid reflux, no stomach pain, perfect digestion otherwise, daily regular bowel movements, just the burping! have woken up with shortness of breath, rapid heart beat several times recently is this related possibly to heart/lung malfunction?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

No, it is not likely related to the heart or lungs because they are different organ symptoms that are not connected to the GI tract so they would not cause burping.

It may be related to foods or drinks that you are using or a side effect of a medication.
It may also be due to lactose intolerance or celiac disease.

In addition some persons do not have the typical symptoms of reflux (burning pain, bloating, nausea) but only present with one or two other symptoms such as burping.

You may need to look at your diet to see if you use a lot of gas producing foods and also consider a course of reflux meds to see if it helps.

I hope this helps
