What Causes Excess Farting?

my younger sister farts often.. around 3 to 4 times an hour. at times it is less.. but she starts to fart immediately after meals and when she is hungry.. she regularly eats yogurt and drinks cultured milk (every morning). she eats slowly (making sure to take her time) and has a low fat diet... she has a pretty fibrous diet as well. oatmeal, apricots, apples, prunes are few of the things she eats at a daily basis. i eat the same thing as well, but do not experience any excessive farting issues

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* When the dietary measures are absolutely practised, the major cause of excess farting is digestive enzyme deficiency, intestine motility-related disorder, low levels of activity and others.
* In my clinic, after clinical evaluation, I recommend to consume gut motility related molecules as levosulpiride, bowel cleansers and other supportive probiotics.
* Later on according to the clinical progress I approach for radiologic or scope evaluation of the same.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
