What Causes Enlarged Tonsils With Large Lumps On The Back Of The Tongue?

Okay so I have many questions.First off,I can see my epiglottis cartilage and I used to not be able to before. And I've had "cobblestoning"on my throat for MONTHS,but it's also enlarging my tonsils and it's white so I think the doctor was wrong? Also I have big bumps on the back of my tounge and very evident veins too, seems like some sort of infection?Bacterial or viral? Are any of these risks to my health?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

It looks like there is infection in throat that has led to inflammation of epiglottis also leading to Epiglotititis causing it swollen due to which it is visible..
White appearrence of the tonsils along with swelling is indicating towards bacterial throat infection ..
Large bumps at the back of tongue can be swollen circumvallate papillae and as it is close to throat, infection in throat can cause inflammation of circumvallate papillae..
So my suggestion is to consult an Emergency room and get evaluated..
A throat and oral swab culture can help in confirming that it is bacterial or viral infection..
You can be advised a course of antibiotics like Augmentin, Azithromycin etc and along with it anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen can help..
Do warm saline gargles and antiseptic mouthwash gargles..
Hopefully all the symptoms will subside..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
