What Causes Enlarged Testicle While Suffering From Upper Respiratory Infection?

My husband has one testicle that has become enlarged, he has an upper respiratory infection and is taking musinex ,alka seltzer and occasional benedryl. His normal meds are lisinipril 20 mg, and pravastatin 20 mg daily and is seen yearly or prn by a physiciat Dartmouth Hitckcock Medical center. He is 76 years old, active and in good health otherwise. I am also an R.N of 40 years. What could be a possible reason for the swelling in the testicle?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The swelling can be due to different possible causes, it would be best for him to be seen to rule out the more serious causes.

The most common causes are infection to the testes or epididymis, trauma with a traumatic rupture or hematoma, torsion of testes, hydrocele.

Examination of the testes and a possible ultrasound would determine the cause.

I hope this helps
