What Causes Enlarged Spleen?

My husband has been dealing with a kidney stone for 4 days, after 2 ER trips and CT scan was done 2 rounds of blood work (CBC) .. The hospital just said follow up with a urologist, the urologist said pass it on your own.. After seeing the urologist, he calls his cell phone and said he sending him to see a hematologist/oncologist due to a slightly enlarged spleen. Do we need to be concerned?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

There are many conditions including infections, liver disease and some cancers which can cause an enlarged spleen, also known as splenomegaly. An enlarged spleen usually doesn't cause symptoms. You should check the enzymes level and the bilirubin level. I suggest to see a gastrohepatologist for further evaluation.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
