What Causes Enlarged Areola In Boys?

My son, age 15 about to be 16 in August has an enlarged aereola on his breast for about a month now and says it is hard. He had it a couple years ago and it went. I think his doctor said it is hormonal. Is this your opinion and how long before I take him to the doctor?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hello,

The enlarged areola is due to hormonal changes that your son is undergoing during the process of puberty. There is no need to worry about it.
If the swelling becomes red or painful, then you can consult a doctor.

Hope that helps.

Regards,

Preeti
