Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Elevation In BP Level Despite Taking Diovan?
I currently take diovan hct to control bp which has averaged 126/75 for the past few months. Over the past 10 days it has been gradually climbing until tonight it is 186/94. Don t know what is going on. Is this dangerously high? Have had a slight headache for 2 days.
I can understand your concern. Surely, the headache from 2 days is due to high blood pressure. If your usual blood pressure stays at 126/75 with regular medications, 186/94 is surely high. Not dangerous to seek emergency care but high enough to get an appointment of the doctor sooner than later.
It might be possible that the current dose the medicine is not working anymore and you need higher dose or change in medicine. I would also advise some life style changes so that these circumstances do not arise often. You should exercise regularly and try to lose some weight if you are overweight. Restrict fat and salt intake in your diet. Join yoga or mediation classes to control the effects of excess stress on your health.
If you develop chest pain or worsening symptoms, emergency attention of doctor is advised. I hope this answer helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you feel better soon!
Best, Dr. Viraj Shah
