Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a rising platelat count over the past 6 months. My white count is high but not outside normal range. All other tests (liver functions, TSH) were normal. I ve had abdominal pain which I m having an ultrasound next week. Anything I should be checking up on with my Primary Care doc?
They probably will. Elevated platelet counts may occur from anything that causes inflammation and increased turnover of the blood. Autoimmune diseases are one of the more common. Also, platelets can just grow. In this condition, the numbers of platelets are far higher. Also if there is a bone marrowbiopsy, you will see a lot more platelets if this is a disorder of platelet growth.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
