What Causes Elevated Liver Enzymes?

Hi. I have been taking Protonix for almost 3 weeks for acids. I had some lab work done and my levels for AST is 812 and ALT 1,115. I do not drink, smoke or use drugs. Could Protonix have caused this rare side effect? My physician said to continue with the medication but I stopped on my own.

Hello,

That just isn't a likely cause. Hepatitis, some structural problem in the liver (fat deposits), even an industrial chemical exposure and certainly any drugs of abuse are far more likely causes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
