Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Elevated Liver Enzymes And Red Blood Cell Count?
I got my blood work back yesterday. I have elevated RBC, Hgb& Hct as well as elevated ALT& AST. I have not felt well for 6 months now. Discomfort in upper right back &abs, fatigue & nearly constant headache. Lack of appetite & nausea. Didn t say anything because I didn t want to be a whiner. Figured I would mention it if labs were off. I think I have been working on on Polycythemia for awhile as RBC, H&H have been high normal for last 3 blood draws. Can the liver enzymes elevations & pain be connected?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Liver problems can cause pain in the area you mentioned as well as anorexia and fatigue. Mostly this is because of fatty liver (alcoholic or non alcoholic which is associated with obesity) other cause would be drugs, infection, or some rare causes. I would advise you screen for viral hepatitis, and get an ultrasound done to see for your liver, that would most of the time sort out the problem.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
