What causes elevated level of MCV in blood?

I recently received my blood work results. My MCV was 100.2 and my MCH was 33.7. I was reading that a high MCV could be the result of alcohol. I do not drink. I don t even have 1 drink per week. I might have a cocktail when I go out to dinner, but that is once a month at the most. So what would this indicate?

Hello,

Yes, you are right alcohol is one the reasons of high MCV. However there are other causes as well like low vitamin B12 and folate levels in blood can also cause raised MCV. I suggest you to visit your doctor to have some other tests as well to get the proper diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
