What Causes Elevated Iron Levels In The Blood?

I am an 84 year old man. On a recent blood test my RBC was low at 4.43; iron was 166; transferrin was low at 190; % iron saturation was high at 62.4; ferritin was high at 336.7. My doctor only said your iron is high, don t eat food with high iron . I am concerned about this. Do you see reason to be further evaluated or treated, or to see a hemotologist?

Hi,

As blood iron content in your body is high, let me know whether have you taken iron tablets for a long time. If yes then stop it. If not then consult with hematologist to rule out possibilities like Wilson disease. You may require antagonistic after consultation. Treatment mainly depends upon the underlying condition.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
