What Causes Elevated Heart Rate?

MY HEART BEAT RATE WENT UP TO 140 BEATS PER MINUTE AND WAS THERE FOR OVER A WEEK. I ENDED UP IN THE HOSPITAL FOR 4 DAYS. THE LOWEST THEY COULD GET IT DOWN TO WAS 130 BEATS PER MIN ON MEDS/ DRIP. THEY FINALLY SCOPED MY HEART- DETERMINED THERE WERE NO CLOTS, AND THEN SHOCKED MY HEART. MY HEART RATE DROPPED TO LOW NORMAL/ 60 BEATS PER MIN. THEY PUT ME ON AMIODARONE 200MG I TABLET A DAY. THEY ALSO PUT ME ON LISINOPRIL 10 MG 2 TABLETS A DAY. . THEY ALSO PUT ME ON METOPROL TARTATE 50 MG 1 TABLET A DAY. I PURCHASED A CUFF AND GAGE. MY CURRENT READING IS 148 OVER 75 AND 34 BEATS PER MIN. WHAT WOULD YOU ADVISE?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your symptoms suggest that you had some sort of tachyarrythmia. You have been put on rate and rhythm controlling drugs for the same.

I suggest you to continue with them to ensure the problem doesn't persist. It is not uncommon for the heart rate to drop when on this therapy. Do not worry and stick to this treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan
