What Causes Elevated Blood Pressure Levels?

I had a physical in November and blood pressure was just fine... normal 110 over 70. Now all of a sudden. today my blood pressure sky rockets to 186 over 94 at the dentist s office. Back home it still is elevated but lower between 146 over 86, 150 over 94. What could cause such a fast increase? I am a 58 year old woman.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The fact that it is significantly less at home compared to at the dentist office, implies that it may be the stress of being at that office, though it is still above normal. You should consider monitoring it for a few days, it should be done at different points during the day to see how it varies over a 24 hour period. If it remains elevated, then you should see your doctor for assessment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
