What causes elevated BP while suffering from obstructive sleep apnea?

I dont remember falling asleep at work but when i wake up then i realize that i was sleeping. Tonight I went to the dentist for a cleaning and she took my bp. Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

After going through your medical query I understand your concern and I would like to tell you that High blood pressure is commonly age related health issue or can be genetics also. Other factors high salt diet, fried and junk food or being over weight are acquired causes of High Blood Pressure. As you mentioned you have OSA that means you can be overwieght (this is what I am guessing that you are overweight as you don't have mentioned here). So, age factor and obesity can be your culprit factors of High Blood Pressure. Kindly start with dietary modifications to low your blood pressure or personally consult your Physician for further management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

My husband has central and obstructive sleep apnea and uses a V-Pap machine. He still thrashes around at night (kicks and punches) and gets headaches and has episodes of confusion. He has had his heart checked...no congestive heart failure and his brain CAT scanned....no reason can be found for the apnea (idiopathic). Is there anything else that can help him?

Dear Doctor, My fiance is suffering from obstructive sleep apnea, as per his doctor says. He mainlys suffers from severe headaches during the day which force him to sleep the moment they are induced. Also, he is not able to sleep for more than 3 hours per night. He just cannot fall asleep. The most recent symptom includes severe backaches. His stress levels can be described as high owing to work and other pressures. Could you please tell me what is happening to him? Is his condition curable? Is he going to die? ---Extremely worried

What is wrong if I am unable to wake up for days at a time, sometimes 4 days. I wake up enough to go to the bathroom, drink and eat something fast. I do have obstructive sleep apnea and am on oxygen/cpap machine. I am 40 lbs overweight and have chronic fatigue with fibromyalgia. My blood pressure is 100/50 on those times.....it may raise 2-4pts but is most often the above rate. What is this?????? I m tired (literally) of living like this.
