What Causes Easy Bruising?

My sister has started bruising easily. She is 52 years old and she clapped her hands together and her hands bruised. Also, her dog jumped on her and scratched her arm and it bruised and turned black. So far, the areas are black. Is this normal? She never used to bruise easily. Could this be a sign of leukemia? Or could it be a result of chronic statin use for high cholesterol? Please advise.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Easy bruising could be a manifestation of underlying hematological disorder.
Kindly do the following laboratory work-up to know what the underlying cause could be.
1. Coagulation profile.
2. Complete Blood Count with peripheral smear examination.
You need to consult Physician with report for clinical examination and interpretation of report.
Then the underlying cause could be treated accordingly.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
