What Causes Earache And Brown Color Ear Wax In A Child?
My 11 yr old daughter has been having ear aches. When we cleaned her ears the wax was a dark brown color. Is that typical? We are getting ready to go out of town and I would like to know if I should take her to the walk in clinic tomorrow. Thanks, Katie
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns. As per your complain brown ear wax can be due to accumulation or sticking of dust and debris over the wax leading to darkening of its colour while there can also be infection in ear that can lead to inflammation and bleeding from the mucosa of ear canal and all of this can lead to pain and brownish discolouration of the ear wax.
I would suggest you to consult an ENT expert and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and otoscopy can help in diagnosis. In case of infection a course of antibiotics and anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen along with antibiotic and analgesic eardrops can be advised. Along with it avoiding excessive water contact with ears like swimming should be done. Keep the ears clean and moisture free. Avoid picking the ears.
Hope this information helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thanks and regards, Dr. Honey Nandwani Arora
