What Causes Ear Pain And Dizziness Along With Nausea?

For 2 weeks I have been experiencing an issue with my right ear. Initially it was intermittent. Sometimes it it was a white noise, at other times it was like the sound you hear after a very loud noise has stopped. At other times the hearing in that ear was so magnified that it was difficult to cope with. Three days after it started I had an episode of intense dizziness that lasted a few hours & then went. The whole next week I carried on as normal with the ear being my only issue. Then the dizziness returned with much greater intensity accompanied this time by nausea. I had to lie down in a dark room without moving my eyes or anything else for about 4 hours before the symptoms slowly abated. Since then I have had a couple of instances of dizziness but the real issue is my ear which for the last 24 hours has been consistently bad with the hearing magnified and a white noise constantly there. I am also exhausted and now unable to do the things that I was doing only last week (eg 75 minute heated yoga sessions 3 times/week, walking to & from the shops, housework etc). Thanks in advance.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As a first line management, you can take analgesics like Paracetamol or Aceclofenac for pain relief.

If symptoms persist better to consult an ENT specialist and get evaluated. As of now drugs like betahistine can be taken for symptomatic relief.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
