What Causes Ear Ache And Discharge?

For months, I have had ear ache in my left ear that has now affected the right ear also. Both have discharge particularly at night during sleep. I have seen the doctor and used two types of antibiotics with only temporary relief. Sometimes, it is itchy. Please, advise. Thanks. Mike.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain it seems that you have got chronic ear infection leading to discharge from ear as well as pain and itchiness..
As it is a chronic infection it will not resolve in a short course of antibiotics and a long course of antibiotics will help..
You can consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and he can do an Otoscopic examination and confirm the cause..
For infection he can advise you a long course of antibiotics like Augmentin, anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen and antibiotic ear drops like Gentamycin, steroid ear drops and also syringing of ears to drain off the infectious fluid can be done to relieve infection faster..
You should also avoid excess water exposure to ear like swimming and avoid picking the ears..
