What Causes Dry Mouth, Canker Sore On Tongue And Sinus?

I have dry mouth and sinus. My mouth and tongue are tender, taste buds off, and cankor sore on tongue. I started taking symbicort a month or so ago for a pulmonary problem (slight). My Doctor told me that improper rinsing could result in getting trench mouth but I always have rinsed thourghly and brushed my teeth after using the inhalor. I did have a lot ot Dental Work done while I was using Symbicort. I shave stopped using it for now. But I still have symtoms. I also take phenobarbitol (low dose 2 x day), Detrol, Ometprizole, low thyroid med, and cholesterol med.and mobic.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms it seems that you have dry mouth secondary to the side effects of medicines and as Symbicort contains Budesonide as one of the ingredient and it is a steroid which is one of the ingredient that plays a major role in causing dry mouth, other medicines like Phenobarbitol that acts as anti depression and anticonvulsant medicine also cause dry mouth..

The tenderness in tongue and mouth, altered action of taste buds and canker sores are all due to dry mouth causing inflammation and mucosal atrophy [thinning] which leads to ulceration and inflammation..

The first thing that you need to do is to get the doses of the medications altered as well as get the inhaler medication changes so that the effect of medicine is reduced and condition will improve..

Drink plenty of water..
Use saliva substitutes containing methyl cellulose for lubrication of mouth..
Saliva stimulants like chewing sugar free chewing gums can help..
For canker sores apply a numbing gel containing Lignocaine if there is pain..
Such on ice pops for reducing inflammation and tenderness.
Gargle with cold water..
Avoid hot and spicy food..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
