What Causes Drastic Weight Loss And Fatigue Despite A Normal Chest X-ray Report?

Hi, I m 24 (1/14/93) 5 8, 120.4 lbs. Recently I ve experienced a huge drop in weight (unintentional). I was 145lbs in May of this year. I dropped 15 within the last 3 months. When I was 20, I had my first abnormal blood test - WBC in the 14,000-15,000. Recently I had to visit the hospital, they ran a CBC. My counts in September were - WBC(14.76)Hemoglobin(16.3)HCT(47.7)Neutrophils,Absolute(11.53)Granulocyte,Immature,Absolute(0.05). I m not the doctor type, Usually only go when it s an emergency. I had a visit with a PCP today after numerous friends, family and colleagues expressing concern about my weight loss, and general unhealthy appearance. Once I thought about it, I do have a lot of other issues going on that I ve put off, or amounted to some other external cause. Night sweats, chills, easy bruising, general fatigue, malaise, aches. When I spoke to my PCP today (first visit) the best way i could describe how i m feeling is Not what a 25 year old should feel . At my visit, we ran multiple blood tests and my PCP ordered a peripheral smear to figure out more. Chest x-ray as well was clear.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I do agree with your family and colleague. Unintentional weight loss , > 5 % of your weight in 6 months is needed to evaluate. Sudden, noticeable weight loss can happen after a stressful event, although it can also be a sign of a serious illness. Based upon your symptoms overactive thyroid, undiagnosed diabetes, Addison's disease, malabsorption and infections like Tuberculosis needed to concern. Other inflammatory conditions such as SLE, Rheumatoid arthritis are less likely. The distant possibility are chronic heart, renal, liver diseases, and cancer.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
