What Causes Dizziness While Laying On Back In A Obese Person?

Hi, I am experiencing dizziness when I lay down on my back. Just wondering what I should watch for before I become concerned. I am 70 years old, in good general health except for obesity. I walk 35 to 55 minutes a day, and recently completed my annual physical exams. I did have a chiropractic session this morning for a frozen shoulder in addition to physical therapy yesterday for the same condition. I am currently drinking water in case I am dehydrated, and took an aspirin as a precaution. I normally do not take aspirin or other OTC medications. Thank you,

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query dizziness while laying on back in a obese person can occur due to many reasons like middle ear infection , some kind of growth in middle ear or fluid in middle ear ( Meniere's disease ) . You should not ignore this , because sometimes the condition get complicated. i would suggest you to start with antibiotics, steroids and labrynthine sedatives for 5 to 7 weeks. you should go for vestibular rehabilitation exercises. You should consult with your ENT specialist and get evaluated. Doctor may order audiometry test and tuning fork test and treat it accordingly. try to loose your weight and avoid touching and pricking it with any sharp object.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
