General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Pregnancy tests detect the HCG hormone. This is normally detectable by day 11 to 14 after conception so if the test was done before this time, it may be falsely negative and may need repeating.

If it is truly negative and your period is delayed then other causes of period delay would need to be considered eg (a) emotional stress or illness
(b)abnormal levels of thyroid hormone
(c)physical illness
(d)high prolactin hormone levels
(e)polycystic ovarian syndrome

I hope this helps
