Hi, I m 59 years old, went to bed last night felt kinda dizzy, lite headed, took an aspirin and went to sleep. woke up at 2:00 a , still dizzy feeling, and started to have cramps in my calf muscle, right side. I was more pyhs., active than normal, could I have been dehydrated? I m also a male. Still same this morning, but not as bad. also started a higher dose of levothyroxin, about 3 weeks ago.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the history about a 59 year old male having dizziness and light headedness after going to bed, took Aspirin, waking up at 2 am with cramps in right calf, continues even after morning. Well the causes can be anything from viral infection to dehydration as you have mentioned. But the pain in single calf muscle must be seen with suspicion.

Hence I would advise you the following:
* Consult your Doctor for clinical evaluation, examination and investigations if required; to get prescription based medications.
* Color doppler for the right lower limb should be done to rule out any DVT that is deep vein thrombosis.

Further management as per the findings. Take plenty of oral fluids to avoid dehydration as this is one of the causes of DVT.

I hope this answer helps you. Let me know if I can assist you further.
