What Causes Dizziness And Palpitations?

I was at the gym PT ing yesterday and I had a sensation in the middle of my chest (wham-) it was followed by a bit of dizziness and palpatations which lasted about a minute. I asked about this with my PC doctor and he indicated it was a esophigeal sphincter spasm , due to my espohegeal (vagonomy surgery in 1989). I can t predict the onset of these episodes, I just need to know how to counter them ? Any advice? My doctor told me just to fight through it , yet, it is a bit on the scary side when this happens-. My says my heart is good; no history of C/arrest. Is there a possibility of a blockage? I had an echo test done and passed without any issues. Just looking for peace of mind and a solution , if any. Thanks

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

Though dizziness and palpitations can occur due to many causes, but I would like to rule out cardiac causes first. Therefore, I suggest you to have an ECG done to look for any arrhythmia (irregular heart rate) or block.

If that's normal, then I would advise to do 24-hour Holter monitor or event recorder which records heart rate for 24 hour and a week, respectively, after consulting your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
