What Causes Dizziness And Nausea After Miscarriage?

I just had a miscarriage, in fact, I just stopped bleeding 2 days ago. The bleeding was very heavy, I would bleed through a tampon and pad every 1-2 hours on average. Whenever I have stood up today I get very dizzy and nauseous and I have chills. Why is this happening?

Hello,

The more likely causes for your symptoms are-1. Anemia due to the heavy bleeding. 2. Postural hypotension due to after effects of the abortion, namely anemia, hypoglycemia and loss of fluid-electrolyte balance. 3. Retained products, if any, can cause infection leading to persistent bleeding, fever etc. This can be excluded through a trans-vaginal sonogram. You need immediate medical attention to improve your condition. Please see a specialist for further management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Shanti Vennam, OBGYN

Hi.

I've gone through your query. I can understand your anxiety.

Your symptoms are due to the miscarriage you undergone. It includes,
- Stomach Cramps
- Heavy bleeding – often passing clots
- Back pain.
- Nausea, dizziness
- Increased heart rate due to significant amount of blood loss

These symptoms will settle down in few days. I advice you to take
- Healthy diet & iron supplements
- Antiemetics for nausea
- excess fluid intake
- strict bed rest

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Get well soon.

Regards,
Dr. Yogapriya V, General and family physician.
