What Causes Dizziness And Lightheadedness After Taking Citalopram?

Hi I stopped taking 10 mg citalopram about 2 weeks under my doctors orders. I did not do this immediately it was a gradual stoppage of the pills. About a week ago I became very dizzy and since then I have had times when I feel lightheaded and the room seems to be spinning. Could this be a side effect of not taking the pills? I was on the pills for only 9 months.

Hello,
As you have mentioned about tab. citalopram which is an anti depressant drug. The lightheadedness and dizziness you mentioned are one of the adverse effects of this tablet. Some times long term adverse effects are noticed in some patients.
* As you are asking about are these withdrawl symptoms but I found them more of long term adverse effects which vanish off with time.
* But if you find them more disturbing and they are hindering your day to day activity then you need to consult your physician for help.
* But if they are mild then you can take Tab. Vertin(16mg),one tablet od(once a day) for three days, this will help you in getting rid of your symptoms.
* Whenever you start feeling lightheadedness sit in a nearby place because in standing position your body may loose balance and it may lead to an accidental injury.
* But still consult your physician once atleast.
