What causes dizziness and heaviness in the head after air travel?

Hello Doctor, My Mother has been experiencing dizzy spells and heavy head since mid 2015. The only thing she did differently before then was long distant flight. She said she was scared in the flight and could not sleep all through and she travelled alone. She has since gone for different tests and scans and no one has correctly diagnosed the cause of this symptoms. Please help me as I do not want my mother to die. What does she need to do? No the: she has been on medication since being diagnosed of high blood pressure and blood sugar in 2009.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I really appreciate your concern, if all the tests are normal then the symptoms that your mother has got like dizziness, could be due to phobia. It may not be a pathological disease, I would advise you to support her morally. Make sure that everything is alright for her and no need to worry about anything, even I would advise you not worry.

Hope I have answered your query, let me know if I can assist you any more.

10 weeks ago I became overcome with dizziness while golfing. I never felt spinning sensation, like vertigo, just very dizzy and light headed. I tried to drive home but had to pull over and have my eife pick me up. I ended up going to the ER and after blood work, EKG, and CAT scan, the determined Nothing seriously wrong. I followed up with ENT and he diagnosed me with vestibular neuritus. He said in 3-8 months it should go away. For about 3-4 weeks I could do nothing...no work, no driving, etc... Bit by bit I eased my way back into driving and work, but it s still a challenge, especially on the expressway and in heavy traffic. I also have trouble in big open spaces and when I lean to the left or look down then up I feel dizzy and at time nauseous. Is this normal? Do I need to give it more time or should I get a 2nd opinion? I also have anxiety which I don t think is helping any, especially with driving, since I keep worrying that I will get dizzy and have to pull over again. I m doing as much as I can to try and retrain my brain, and my ENT doesn t recommend VET, just to be patient. It s all very frustrating and I m hopeful I m on the right track but I m starting to question if that s the case.
