What Causes Discomfort In Between The Breasts While Suffering With Epi-gastritis?

Hi, I am experiencing Epi-Gastric distress times 3 days now. I went to a local hospital ER/ED to rule-out any heart problems. The OD in duty in the emergency area ran 4 tests and reported a blockage in one of my Portal Veins, along with gall bladder infection or possible infection. My question is WHY has the discomfort settled between my breasts, center-mass so to speak, betwn the liver on my right and the heart on my left? I feel pain on touching my breastbone, and near the back of the epi gastric area. Could the pancreas be at fault due to the serious digestive issue I am experiencing? Gas, gas, and more gas, coupled with what should be hunger pangs, I am eating small amts of food with NO bowel activity times 10 days now. The absence of a bowel movement alerted me to this problem on Wed eve. July 14th. Without ginger ale, ginger beer and coca cola, Maalox, Antacid liquid, and MOM, NO movement occurs. At least not since Thurs. 7-15-2016. So, What Do You Think is causing my disturbance? I am 69yrs of age, fairly active, probably borderline Diabetic-I am health conscious with diet and avid with exercise. The discomfort near my heart region is a source of concern. Thank You, JTA, New Jersey

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

At this point I think you need some evaluation. I had already said that possibility of benign disorder is highest at this age. But as now you have specifically mentioned immobile lump, we need to dig deeper.

From your other query I understand that you have already visited a doctor and was sent back with reassurance. That is, in fact, reassuring. But to have more clarity it will be prudent to get an ultrasound of the breast. It will give lot of info and if necessary we can go for a fine needle aspiration.

Hope this helps. I will be available for follow up.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
