What Causes Discoloration Right Above Upper Lip In A Child?

My son is 3 years old and has a small discoloration right above his upper lip. It is lighter than the rest of his skin. We took his pacifier from him about 2 weeks ago ( he would only use it at naps and bedtime) because we thought that s what was causing it. It sometimes gets dry and peels (similar to a a chapped lip) so I have been putting chap stick on it, however it doesn t seem to be turning back even without his pacifier for two weeks. Any suggestions?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have discoloration right above upper lip in a child is mainly due to dehydration, bacterial infection or folliculitis or allergic reaction to the pacifier. You need not to worry as it is not causing any pain and will most probably resolve on its own. You should avoid touching or picking over it otherwise it can get infected. You should apply an antibiotic ointment over it and if there are some more allergy symptoms consult a Pediatrician and get evaluated. Drink plenty of water. Apply petroleum jelly on lips.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
