What Causes Discharge Of Clear Stringy Substance During Menstruation?

My name is Jasmine Mooneyham. Every month I will have my period. But when i am on my period, i will have this clear stringy, bloody stuff coming out. I don t know what it is, or what to do about it. Can u tell me what is going on and what it is? And when i use the bathroom, and this happens my virginal area burns and hurts. I thought it was nothing but now, that it is happening more, it is staring to worry me. Can you please help me.

Dear XXXX,

Clear stingy discharge which causes burning sensation in the vagina is definitely an infective discharge. It is likely that you are having either Trichomonal discharge, which can be treated with Metronidazole; or it can be bacterial discharge. The bacterial infection could be bacterial vaginosis, sexually transmitted infection or pyogenic bacterial vaginal infection. Such bacterial infections need suitable and appropriate antibiotics to treat them. You may need vaginal swab examination to identify the infective organism and the medicines to which they are sensitive.

Please report to your Gynaecologist.

Whichever could be the type of infection, it can get transmitted to the sexual partner through sexual act. Hence, both of you should report to the doctor, irrespective of the symptoms to the male partner. Please observe absolute sexual abstinence till both of you are declared completely cured.
