Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Difficulty To Urinate After Colonoscopy?
My husband had a colonoscopy early this morning. It is 9 hours later and he is having difficulty urinating. We called the doctor s office and spoke to someone on his staff. She said it was NOT due to the procedure. He feels the urgent need to urinate, but only dribbles with no relief. No previous problems with his bladder. What should he do?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history about your husband having difficulty in passing urine within 9 hours of colonoscopy, dribbling, has urgency. My thoughts: This may not be definitely due to colonoscopy as other symptoms of pain in abdomen, bloating vomiting would have appeared. I would advise him the following: Go to ER. Per-rectal examination, ultrasonography and tests of urine and blood. Catherization if required will be done. The reports will indicate what further tests and treatment to be done.
