What Causes Difficulty Remembering The Names In The Elderly?

My stepfather has just had an episode where by he could not remember names where he was or events. What he had done for the previous two hours, or what had been said to him. He does not have any numbness or appear to have lots of speech, but he is in a highly emotional state. He is now obsolete exhausted and want to sleep. Could this be a TIA? If so should he be allowed to sleep, or should he seek medical attention immediately?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It may be due to cerebral atrophy or Parkinson disease.

For further assessment, he may require an MRI brain after neurologist opinion.

Along with that, he may require hormonal check-up as per evaluation.

Further treatment mainly depends upon the underlying diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr Shyam Kale
